The mission of the Cleveland Surgical Society is to improve the science and art of surgery and the interchange of medical knowledge and information, to promote research to improve the quality and safety of surgery and surgical procedures and to engage in scientific or educational programs for the benefit of the surgeons and medical community of Northeastern Ohio.

Stump the Stars has become one of popular meetings of the Society where students, residents and fellows of regional training programs present unusual cases to a distinguished panel of local surgeons (The Stars).
69th Annual Resident Essay Contest
The Resident Essay Contest is the hallmark event of the Society. Instituted in 1954, this forum encourages presentation of research and clinical topics by medical student, residents and fellows from the regional academic programs.
